Hi Mark,
could be an authentication/connection type related problem. Let us see
your pg_hba.conf file, should be in /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf.
Also, is your Postgres running on the default port? Maybe send your
postgresql.conf too, if it is not too secret.
